New guide helps businesses plan their post-COVID business landscape

Woody Wade, a Swiss expert in the strategic technique of scenario planning, has just launched “SEE YOUR NEW NORMAL”, a manual intended for managers wishing to understand how their post-pandemic terrain could evolve. The book is available in e-book and paperback format.

The COVID pandemic has brought about unprecedented change in almost every sector of the global economy. It has hit hospitality and travel particularly hard, as border controls have increased, vacations have been canceled, business meetings have gone virtual, and hotels and restaurants around the world have been forced to close.

Now, however, the world’s population is getting vaccinated and businesses are starting to reopen – but does that mean we’ll go back to how it was before Covid? Almost certainly not, says Woody Wade, a scenario planning expert and author based in Switzerland. “Over the past 18 months we’ve been forced to find – or invent – new ways to get things done,” he says. “Normally, inventiveness is a very good thing. But in the case of COVID, our short-term adaptability can have longer-term consequences, as the measures we put in place as “temporary” fixes can become part of the permanent landscape. “

The new normal

Cumulatively, all of these changes mean that a “new normal” is forming, a business ground that is very different from what it was before the pandemic. “In every industry,” says Wade, “a new landscape has taken shape over the past few months – and the process is not yet complete. You need to identify how your landscape might change further, as you might need different strategies, resources, and skills depending on how it evolves. This may be even truer for companies in the hospitality industry, as the recovery is only just beginning.

To help business owners and policymakers understand precisely what the post-COVID strategic landscape might look like for their businesses, Wade wrote “See Your New Normal,” a guide that walks readers through the process step by step. scenario planning, a method many businesses use to forecast changes they may face in the future. In this new book, he focuses on visualizing the immediate post-pandemic world and presents a number of examples illustrating this process from his repertoire of post-COVID scenario generation workshops conducted over the past few months.

“Scenario planning is a surprisingly straightforward methodology,” says Wade. “My book shows you how to apply it – in a simple way – in your own business. The advantage is that you have a realistic idea of the future opportunities and challenges that you might encounter in your specific business. It’s very down to earth. “

“See Your New Normal” is available in paperback and Kindle editions. A Spanish edition was also published, entitled “Visualiza Tu Nueva Normalidad”. Later this month, a French, German and Italian edition will also be launched.
