INTRODUCTION

The health and safety of students and staff remains the top priority for Rockdale County Public Schools as we return to school buildings. We will continue to monitor COVID-19 data in our community and make changes, if necessary. We believe that closely following the guidelines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Gwinnett, Newton, Rockdale (GNR) regional public health department will reduce the spread of the disease. However, it will take the efforts of all parents, students, staff and community members to wear a mask or face covering, wash your hands frequently, and monitor your distance by keeping 3 to 6 feet from either side. other. Together we will stay healthy and thrive!

Mask / face cover
A mask or face covering should be worn on the bus, in common areas of buildings, in classrooms, and whenever social distancing cannot be reasonably maintained.

Hand disinfection stations
Self-service hand disinfection stations will be placed on buses and in high traffic areas in all schools and offices.

Personal health
All students and staff are expected to stay home in the event of illness. Schools and offices will follow all guidelines recommended by public health to reduce the spread of all diseases.

Social distancing
Where possible, a social distance of 3 to 6 feet from each other will be maintained.

Same direction
Where possible, traffic patterns in schools will be changed to one-way traffic in hallways and common areas, especially during transitions. Student desks and tables will also be oriented in the same direction in classrooms and common areas where possible.

Signage
Appropriate signage will be placed throughout campus to remind students and staff of health and safety protocols.

Cleaning
Cleaning protocols will be adjusted as needed to follow all public health recommendations.

DAILY ACTIVITIES

• Students are required to remain in the chosen learning option for the designated period of time (Kindergarten to Grade 12 for 18 weeks). For extenuating circumstances, RCPS has an appeal process for parents who wish to change their student’s option from virtual to in-person before the end of the designated time period.
• All visitors should have an appointment, if possible.
• Face coverings should be worn in all common areas such as hallways, washrooms and buses. Students and staff will provide their own face coverings in accordance with the district dress code.
• Students should go directly to their classroom as soon as they enter the building.
• Students will not be allowed to assemble in parking lots, reserved bus lanes, reserved car lanes, etc.
• Hallway traffic patterns will be adjusted for one-way movement where possible.
• Plexiglas barriers will be used at main entrances, reception desks, cafeterias and other areas where person-to-person interactions are frequent.
• Recreation for elementary school students will be allowed outside.
• College students will not change clothes for EP High school students will change clothes for EP
• Please check with your school for details of school specific timetables and protocols.

CLASSROOM

• Where possible, classrooms will be configured to maintain social distancing with all students facing the same direction. Transparent office barriers can be used in some classrooms.
• Students should use their own school supplies.
• Classrooms will be equipped with approved cleaning products for use on frequently touched surfaces throughout the day, such as doorknobs, interactive whiteboards, tables, desks, etc.
• Face coverings should be worn in the classroom as well as social distancing to maximize the safety of students and teachers.
• Disguise areas and times will be determined by local schools for activities such as eating / drinking, physical activity or certain instructional settings.
• Students will benefit from frequent breaks to wash their hands throughout the day in addition to access to hand sanitizing stations on campus.

TRANSPORT

• Students, drivers and monitors must wear a face covering at all times on the bus.
• Students will be asked to face at all times and will not be allowed to share items with other students while they are taking the bus.
• Hand disinfection stations will be provided on each bus.
• Whenever possible, windows or ventilation will be opened to increase the air flow inside the bus during journeys.
• Buses will be disinfected between routes.

SCHOOL MEALS

• Students will collect their meals from the cafeteria and can eat in the cafeteria. Student meal protocols will be handled by each school.
• Cashiers will have a plexiglass barrier between them and the students.
• All safety and disinfection procedures will be followed.
• Masks will be worn by everyone in the cafeteria.

CLEANING PROTOCOLS

• Child care will follow all cleaning protocols recommended by the CDC and the local health department.
• Every evening, a deep cleaning will take place in all schools.
• High contact points such as door areas, tables, hallway walls, washrooms and the like will be cleaned throughout the day.
• Washrooms will be checked and contact points cleaned hourly.
• Clorox 360 or similar cleaning machines will be deployed to all major traffic areas each night upon return and will provide extensive maintenance to all schools on a weekly basis. The machines will be immediately deployed to areas likely to be compromised by a reported disease.
• Teachers and staff will have approved cleaning products to help clean high contact surfaces throughout the day in classrooms and offices.

PERSONAL HEALTH

• Parents should monitor their children’s health and keep sick children at home. This includes checking your student’s temperature daily and monitoring for other possible symptoms of COVID-19.
• Staff should monitor their own health and stay home in case of illness.

• Students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 (symptomatic or asymptomatic) should stay home for the length of time recommended by the public health department.
• Clinical assistants will be trained to identify symptoms of COVID-19 and immediately isolate students with these symptoms. Parents will be required to pick up sick children immediately from school. If a parent cannot be reached, the student’s emergency contact will be called.
• Reliable information and resources on COVID-19 are available at the following websites:
www.cdc.gov and www.gnrhealth.com
• Parents, students, staff and visitors should not enter any RCPS building showing symptoms of COVID-19, having been exposed to COVID-19 in the past 14 days, or having tested positive for COVID- 19 without the appropriate isolation period. Anyone who knowingly violates this protocol may be subject to disciplinary action.

NOTIFICATION

• The district and schools will follow the protocols required to report positive cases of COVID-19 to the public health department.
• Parents and staff should report positive cases to the school as soon as they receive test results.
• Parents and staff should report positive suspected cases due to symptoms of COVID-19.
• Parents and staff will be personally notified if students or staff are exposed to a positive case of COVID-19 resulting in a quarantine period.
